TV Ad Asks Us to "Protect Isabella" from Her Lesbian Moms

tvspot

A TV ad airing in Virginia is highlighting the ongoing child custody battle between two women, Janet Jenkins of Fair Haven, Vt., and Lisa Miller of Winchester, Va., who conceived their daughter through artificial insemination while in a lesbian relationship.

Jenkins and Miller, entered into a Vermont civil union in 2000. Two years later, Miller gave birth to a girl, Isabella Miller-Jenkins and the family of three moved to Vermont soon after.

When the couple split in 2003, Miller returned to Virginia and denied Jenkins access to Isabella. The move started a legal battle in two states and requests for the U.S. Supreme Court to hear the case. That court declined to review the case and Miller has lost just about every legal step thus far.

The Protect Isabella Coalition, is a grassroots effort aimed to create awareness of what it labels "judicial tyranny" in the case. Debbie Thurman of Sheer Faith Ministries, a Protect Isabella Coalition spokesperson, said Christian radio and television stations in Virginia are airing the ads to draw attention to an appeal pending in the state.

Here is a video of the ad that they are running:

A website has been set up by the Protect Isabella Coalition as well which can be found at http://www.protectisabella.com/.

The Protect Isabella Coalition is asking fellow Virginians to contact their state delegates and senators and ask them to uphold the state's marriage laws and stand in support of Isabella Miller-Jenkins.

Janet Jenkins told the Washington Blade the campaign is “pure insanity” and a futile attempt to change “a settled case.”

“They’re just so out of bounds,” she said. “It has nothing to do with marriage.”
